Well, some of you might not know that the hubby and I decided to go on a "No Sugar Challenge" this week, and it actually went GREAT!
Trust me, no one is more surprised than I am that I just wrote "GREAT" at the end of that sentence. My hubby and I are both overweight, but with a cute, baby girl and an amazing future together, we are BEYOND motivated to get in shape and get healthy! This is our health journey, so we know there will be bumps in the road and obstacles, but we want to feel good and not be subject to the diseases that come along with obesity. So, as a fun little experiment, we did not eat any form of cane sugar (liquid, white, brown, powdered, etc) for a whole week, and honestly, we both are feeling pretty dang good! We could have fruit and natural sweeteners, just no cane sugar. We both tried to avoid the artificial sweeteners as much as possible, because they really aren't very good for you, but sometimes you need a little sugar-free, pre-prepared snack to make the cravings go away.
The first couple days were okay. I didn't necessarily have big cravings, but I didn't necessarily not want a giant brownie either! By day three- I had a really bad sugar-withdrawal headache. I ended up getting a Enlightened Fudge Ice Cream Bar, and it was actually pretty dang good and made the headache mellow out!

Day three was also really frustrating because I have been working out like crazy and I thought that I would weigh a little less from last week, especially with me eating healthier, but the scale actually went UP from 255 to 259! Holy Cow! I was so mad! Okay, not so much mad as I was disappointed. But I kept vigilant on this "no sugar challenge" and I'm so glad I did! By the 6th day, the hubby and I had more energy, slept better, noticed changes in our skin and that our digestive issues had subsided, and had a better overall feeling of health. ANNNNDDDD- I lost 6 lbs! 253 baby! Maybe the 259 was just bloat? I dunno.
I never would have guessed that this would turn into something that we wanted to do long term, but we both decided yesterday that we want to stick with this way of eating as much as possible. We are still going to do one cheat meal a week, and there will be times and occasions when we will be eating sugar, but I think for the most part this challenge has really made us take a step back and examine how sugar was effecting us. We are going to do our best to keep this "no sugar challenge" going!
