LB Parties- Snow White 1st Birthday Party ๐๐ฅง⛏๐๐ฆ
I have been gone from this blog for FOREVER!!! It has been 4 years WAY too long! In that time, my little baby girl has grown to a crazy, fun 4 year old and we added a cute little baby boy to our family!
Also in that 4 years, we have had 4 Disney Princess-themed birthday parties! They have been magical and so much fun to plan! I knew I had a talent for party planning and a creative eye for years, but I didn't realize how much I loved it until I had my daughter and we started planning her birthday parties. And I haven't just thrown Disney Princess parties in the last 4 years; there have been Eagle Scout parties, adult birthday parties, mission farewells, holiday parties, etc. I wanted to start sharing the parties that I have thrown over the years, including the food, the decor, the details, the games and activities, and the inspiration behind the parties. I'm calling them "Lemon Baby Parties" and have started posting about them on my Insta.
So to get started, let me tell you about my process when it has come to my daughter's birthday parties.
I usually start planning her parties a year in advance. That may sound crazy, but I will explain why it takes me so long:
- First- even though we have a set Disney Princess for that year, we have to pick a theme from that princess. I've drawn inspiration from vintage Disney pieces, movie scenes, books, and random elements in the princess's story. I don't go with the "hokey" Disney Princess decorations you can get at Party City. Most of those decorations will invlove the prince, and the last thing that I want at a baby/child's birthday party is any element of romance. Everything for her parties has been carefully selected and cultivated. Am I crazy and obsessive and weird? Yes! Do I LOVE seeing her light up when she sees her party? Yes!
- All of the parties have been on a budget, and I've shopped at everything from second-hand, to eBay, to DollarTree, to Etsy, to name brand stores on clearance to collect items for the parties. When you are on a budget, it takes a long time to collect the decor and party details you need to not break the bank.
- Sometimes, a lot of times, I have had to create what I have wanted (explain that in a bit).
- Her birthday is in Oct, so we always base her Halloween costume on her birthday theme and SHE LOVES IT!!! So again with the budget and not wanting to go with just a "hokey" outfit, it takes me a while to get all the little costumes and things we need for not only her birthday, but for Halloween. I hope we continue this tradition for her, even after the "Disney Princess Phase" is over.
Once we have a theme, I start collecting ideas from Pinterest, Instagram, and various internet searches. Sometimes I find a party/cake/costume that is EXACTLY what I have envisioned for her party, and other times I realize I am alone in my weird inspiration for her party, and I'm going to have to wing it. I begin scouring eBay, Etsy, DIY sites, everything I can get my hands on to find excellent deals and ideas. I then start the buying process. I don't buy anything unless I know I am getting the BEST deal possible (I'm making memories, not trying to create massive amounts of unnecessary debt). After all the buying is done, it is time for me to create whatever is left over that I couldn't buy. This happens more often times than not. I have some of the funnest things that I have created, that I can't wait to share with you! After all the hard work of planning/buying/creating is done, we can make the invitations, get them passed out, and throw our party! I am always a hot mess the day of, but I LIVE for these moments! Nothing is better than creating birthday magic for my baby!
So with all of that said (and a look into my insane/scatter-brained mind), let's get on to our SNOW WHITE PARTY!!! ๐๐ฆ๐⛏๐ฅง
We went with Snow White for her first birthday because, OBVI- Snow White is the first Disney Princess (and it helps that she's adorable, innocent, and her colors are primary colors- perfect for a first birthday)!
My first point of inspiration was this adorable, Whitman Golden Book Tell-A-Tale "Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs" Book from my childhood. My grandma gave me this book and I fell in love with the beautiful illustrations. I would imagine what kinds of yummy cakes and pies Snow White would bake for the dwarfs and dream of finding my own little cottage in the forest.
I would read this little book over and over again and it became one of my childhood treasures.
My next point of inspiration were these Snow White paper dolls. I love the alternative, 50's/60's color scheme of these dolls! This, along with the main primary colors of Snow White, were what I based the color scheme of the party on.
Here were some of the other images I ran across that were points of inspiration for the party:
I was even able to make a MILLION bows with all of the leftover felt. We still use these bows today!
I also was madly in love with large ballerina dolls that were becoming SUPER popular at the time but were CRAZY expensive! I found this pattern at Hobby Lobby and decided to create a Snow White Ballerina Doll. Now granted, my sewing skills are not amazing, but when I am determined, I can make just about anything!
Here is the result:
Isn't she cute?!
And what birthday right before Halloween would be complete without an adorable costume to match? At the time, there weren't any cute baby Snow White costumes, so again- I had to make my own. I got a blue plain onesie, added light blue silk material and gold trim to the middle, added red ribbon on top of that, and made a slightly bigger identical tutu to the one I had made the Snow White ballerina doll.
My actual "theme" within the Snow White theme (I know I'm crazy) was woodland party, so of course we had to have the party outside.
This was definitely my simplest party that I have thrown for her, but perfect for family and friends to celebrate our little princess! I didn't have a "background" for my little dessert/buffet table. I didn't have any balloon garlands or streamers or anything too nuts, but we did have the characters, the themed food, a BEAUTIFUL cake, and so much fun at this party!
We had my daughter in her light blue high chair, with the biggest red balloon and some yellow polka dot and blue ones. SHE LOVED IT!
We had ring pops for the seven dwarfs' diamond mine.
We had Snow White and the gang in all their glory, resting on a log so she could tell them stories.

I wanted to give my daughter some seven dwarf plush dolls (and also use them as party decor), but there weren't any on the market at the time that looked like the actual dwarfs. So what do you do when you can't find what you need, ready-made? You make it! I looked up how to construct your own plush dolls, and improvised. I printed out coloring book pages of each dwarf, got felt in every color know to man, and hand stitched every dwarf (using felt, fuzzy material for beards, and regular thread, with the coloring page as a "sewing pattern") and stuffed them with cotton stuffing. They turned out so cute, but took FOREVER to finish (good thing I start so far in advance, right?!).

Poor Baby- The wind was crazy that day and kept whipping the balloons in her face. Luckily it died down right as the party started. |

I made homemade, mini chicken pot pies for our dinner and the family LOVED THEM! I didn't make them the "prettiest" that I could have, but that was a crazy day and I kind of ran out of time. Recipe found here.
Sorry for the "trippy" perspective of the photo ๐คท๐คท๐คท |
We had the YUMMIEST caramel apples on a golden cake plate. Don't worry, they weren't poisoned. We also put her presents around the apples and to the side of the table. She got spoiled!
And then there was the "piรจce de rรฉsistance"- THE CAKE!
The garland around the cake was made from leftover felt from the dwarfs.
It was 3 layers of rainbow chip cake with rainbow chip frosting and my daughter went NUTS! We served it on the cake plate we had our wedding cake on (felt very "Circle of Life") and I added some little birds from the Dollar Tree and a little "1" cake topper that I made out of some gold glitter felt and a stick (super easy).
I added these adorable pastel candles (that kind of matched the colors that inspired me for the dwarfs) and ended the party on a high note!
And that's a wrap for our first LEMON BABY PARTY!!!! Many more to come!!!!
